Ebonyi State Resident Commissar of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Gods will Obioma, has been appointed the new National Examinations Council Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, NECO, Vanguard reports.
President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Obioma to replace Charles Uwakwe, who was on suspension running into two years until his sack by the president last Friday.
A statement, Friday, by Azeez Sani, NECO ‘s Head, Information and Public Relations Division, said the president’s action was conveyed, “In a letter dated 15 May 2020 with reference number: FME / PS/396 / C1/1/134 and signed by the education minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu.”
According to the document, the letter “confirmed that the appointment for an initial five-year term will take effect as of May 14, 2020.”
It read in full: “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of Professor Godswill Obioma as National Examinations Council Registrar / Chief Executive.
‘In a letter dated 15 May 2020 and signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, with Reference No: FME / PS/396 / C1/1/134, the appointment for an initial tenure of five years is effective from 14 May 2020.
“Obioma was born on 12 December 1953 as Professor of Education Measurement and Evaluation from the Bende Local Government Area in abia state.
The Registrar formally took over the Council’s affairs from the former Acting Registrar, Mallam Abubakar Gana at the Minna headquarters of the Council on Friday, 22 May, 2020.
“He was a former Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council executive secretary.
“Professor. Obioma has held other important roles in the education sector, including: Director, Supervision, Study and Statistics, National Business and Technical Exams Board (NABTEB); Director Monitoring and Evaluation of the Universal Basic Education Programme; Director Monitoring and Evaluation of the National Primary Education Commission and Head of Science , Math and Technology Department, Universi.
“Until his appointment as Registrar/CE of NECO, Prof. Obioma was the Ebonyi State Resident Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“An erudite scholar, Prof. Obioma has many scholarly publications to his credit. He is married and blessed with children.”
